(I heard) them play one of the most convincing performances of Beethovens’s Op. 132 I remember, including a perfectly sustained and moving slow movement.
– Alfred Brendel

The performance of my “String Quartet, No. 3” by the Eliot Quartett at the Shostakovich Festival was the most perfect of any I have heard. It was enthusiastically received not only by myself, its author, but by the entire audience.

DSCH & beyond

Our new album DSCH & Beyond was featured in the program Die besondere Aufnahme on Deutschlandfunk Kultur and and reviewed by MusicWeb International:

“The Eliots are obviously immersed in the idioms and sonorities of the Shostakovich Quartets, and their performance of the Meyer is authoritative with a feel of genuine spontaneity. […] They dispatch the fugue in the last movement with clarity and passion, and their handling of the muted conclusion is perfectly judged. […] An excellent recital then.”

DSCH & Beyond has also been included on the longlist for the German Record Critics’ Award (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik).

Carinthischer Sommer 2025

We are happy to announce that from July 26 to August 2, we will perform the complete cycle of Shostakovich’s 15 string quartets at the Carinthischer Sommer Festival!

Eliot Quartet releases album with Shostakovich string quartets

On the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich’s death (2025) and on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the Eliot Quartet is dedicating itself to a cyclical performance of all 15 of the composer’s string quartets in the twelve-part concert series ‘DSCH & beyond’. The works are deliberately set in relation to pieces by other composers – from Bach, Haydn and Schubert to Gubaidulina and Pärt – in order to reveal exciting connections and invite the audience on an extraordinary journey of discovery.

This project has now resulted in the first album, which presents Shostakovich’s String Quartets No. 3 and No. 8 as well as the ‘hypothetical’ Quartet No. 16 ‘Au-delà d’une absence’ by Krzysztof Meyer.
